Stephen Hockman QC and Mark Watson QC succeed in appeal against sentence in asbestos exposure case

Stephen Hockman QC and Mark Watson QC have been successful in an appeal against a sentence in a case that concerned exposure to asbestos.
The case highlighted the importance of expert evidence in cases involving the assessment of likelihood of injury under the Sentencing Guideline for Health and Safety Offences (which also has implications for sentencing in food safety and environmental cases). The case also emphasised that the Court of Appeal will only set aside convictions on the ground of inconsistent verdicts in the most exceptional circumstances.
