March 16, 2023
John FitzGerald represented the first of two men accused of setting a trap for another male with whom the defendant had a week-long running dispute over a cocaine deal. Voice notes, WhatsApp and video messages were exchanged between the two. On the 18th of August 2022, the complainant attended the defendant’s address in Tunbridge Wells. Violence broke out and the complainant sustained 15 knife injuries including 7 stab wounds, which were the subject of evidence from a Forensic Pathologist. The defence case was that he was acting in self-defence. The complainant fled the scene to a local YMCA where he collapsed and was taken to hospital. The defendant fled to Croydon where he was found by police a few days later.
