Food & beverage

Overview

Members of Chambers’ specialist food and beverage team advise and represent food businesses and their staff (companies, directors and individuals) working across the food and beverage sector including; primary production, processing, import, export, distribution, retail, hospitality and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

We work with established businesses of all sizes as well as with start-ups. We also assist businesses who are launching new products and those entering the market for the first time.

We provide proactive regulatory and compliance advice and work with clients to find effective solutions in the event of legal disputes or intervention from the Competent Authority. If we cannot help to resolve issues informally, we will provide representation in court to challenge enforcement action or to pursue or defend legal rights.

Our very experienced food and beverage team provides advice and representation in respect of a broad range of food related topics such as; food hygiene, food safety, food information, nutrition and health claims, supplements, food standards, compositional requirements, marketing standards, imports, exports and animal welfare (including at the time of killing).

Our specialist barristers are also experienced in providing advice and representation on matters relating to the law relating to animal and pet feed.

Food businesses may of course require assistance in many “non-food” related matters.

Members of our other specialist teams work with food and beverage clients, in relation to health and safety cases, inquests, environmental matters, civil and commercial disputes, employment issues and personal injury claims.
