Murder Defence Underway

October 4, 2018

The trial of Auremas Vilius and Klaudijus Klimanskis began last week. They are charged with the murder of a man called Edvardus Barsevicius. Oliver Saxby QC and John Fitzgerald, instructed by Reeves and Co, are representing the first defendant, Vilius. The Crown’s case is reliant on detailed and complex expert evidence arising, firstly, from the injuries sustained by Mr Barsevicius and, secondly, from blood distribution found at the scene. The former involves evidence from two pathologists and two neuropathologists, dealing amongst other things with the causation of Grade II Diffuse Axonal Injury. The latter involves the evidence of two DNA specialists, assisting on the provenance of the blood found, its source and the manner of its distribution. Defence cases will start early next week. The trial is expected to conclude the week after next.
