The so called legal high “Spice” has played a role in a number of recent murders. Legal highs, their chemical diversity and the speed of their development make this type of substance difficult to detect and deal with.

In this article Richard Barraclough QC outlines two murder cases in which the defendants’ addictions to “Spice” were a major factor. The article also examines the nature of ‘legal highs’ and the growth and adaptability of such substances over the last 20 years.
