Arthur Labinjo-Hughes murder trial – Nina Ellin prosecuting
January 12, 2022
Nina Ellin led by Jonas Hankin QC successfully prosecuted Arthur Labinjo-Hughes’ step-mother (Tustin) and father (Hughes), resulting in convictions for murder and manslaughter following an 8 week trial in early December 2021.
During the trial it also emerged that the 6 year old boy had been tortured by his father and his partner, and subjected to starvation, isolation and salt poisoning, eventually dying of a traumatic head injury in June 2020 at the hands of Tustin.
Tustin was sentenced to life with a minimum of 29 years for murder, and the father was jailed for 21 years for manslaughter. In his sentencing remarks Mr Justice Wall said the case was one of the most distressing and disturbing cases he had ever had to deal with.
