Young man cleared of manslaughter – Nina Ellin KC defending

A young man who was aged 18 at the time of the incident was cleared of manslaughter following a submission of no case to answer in relation to a fatal assault on a man in the street. He admitted a first single punch causing minor injuries and also an earlier affray. It was successfully argued however on his behalf that his involvement in the incident was separate and distinct from the subsequent punch by the co-defendant which caused the victim to fall and suffer unsurvivable injuries, and that he was therefore not part of a joint attack causing death.
