The George Hinde Moot Competition: the Quarter-Finals
February 19, 2025

Now in its 40th year, the George Hinde Moot Competition remains a highlight for aspiring barristers, offering a platform to hone advocacy skills. Six Pump Court is proud to sponsor this event and support future legal professionals. Grace Cullen, Head of Pupillage at Six Pump Court, was asked to judge the quarter-finals, which took place at the School of Law, Queen Mary University in London.
The quarter-finals on 13th February 2025 showcased exceptional legal reasoning and persuasive advocacy. This year’s moot problem, courtesy of Prof. Elizabeth Gillow, involves Luna Enterprises Ltd. v Aster Holdings Ltd., a dispute over whether a contract can be rescinded due to mutual mistake.
The complexity of the moot problem required contestants to showcase their ability to analyse intricate contractual principles, construct compelling legal arguments, and think critically under scrutiny.
Ms Anastasiia Bakhmatiuk and Mr Ayush Mukherjee acted for the appellant, Luna Ltd., while Ms Katherine Marlow and Ms Francesca Aste represented the respondent, Aster Holdings Ltd. All demonstrated rigorous argumentation under pressure.
The semi-finals, taking place on the 14th of April, will be judged by HHJ Baucher and retired HHJ Freeland. The winner of the competition will be offered a mini-pupillage at Six Pump Court.
Congratulations to all quarter-finalists, and best of luck to those advancing further.
