Six Pump Court pupils runners-up in mooting competition
June 19, 2014
In very close-run final, Fran Aldson and Eamonn-Hurley Flynn, pupils at Six Pump Court, finished runners-up in the annual Lord Slynn of Hadley Mooting Competition, organised by the United Kingdom Environmental Law Association (UKELA). The finals were held at Kings College London on Wednesday, 11 June 2014.
On reaching the final, which was judged by Lord Carnwath JSC, the team narrowly lost out to pupils from Francis Taylor Building but were complimented by Lord Carnwath on their “well presented and clear” arguments, with Lord Carnwath adding that he had reached his decision with “some reluctance”.
The moot problem involved a challenge to a local planning authority’s decisions not to carry out an environmental impact assessment and appropriate assessment under EU law for proposed development close to sites of national and European importance.
Fran and Eamonn are in their second six months of pupillage and are available to take instructions in all aspects of Chambers’ work.
