Murder conviction – Oliver Saxby QC leading for Crown
August 12, 2020
A 66 year old man was convicted yesterday of murder, and sentenced to Life Imprisonment with a Minimum Term of 20 years.
Colin Cadamartreia stabbed Jarrod Marsh in the neck with a steak knife as Mr Marsh was dosing on a sofa. The knife severed a vein and an artery before puncturing Mr Marsh’s right lung. Mr Cadamartreia left Mr Marsh to bleed to death. During the course of the proceedings, Mr Cadamartreia raised various defences including accident, self-defence, lack of intent and loss of control. The trial took place at Sheffield Crown Court before Mr Justice Goss and was one of the first to be heard at that court centre since the resumption, and the first murder trial to be heard on the North Eastern Circuit.
Oliver Saxby QC was leading Julia Baggs of Wilberforce Chambers, Hull. They were instructed by Alex Quigley of the Yorkshire and Humberside Crown Court Team.
