Mukhtiar Singh completes his first regulatory trial

July 21, 2014

Mukhtiar Singh appeared in a two-day trial involving proceedings brought by Trading Standards. The case involved the extreme emaciation of four pigs after the severe weather conditions of March 2013. The defendant faced 11 charges relating to animal welfare, food regulations and animal regulations. The main issue was causation and the trial issues were dominated by the evidence of three expert witnesses.

The prosecution alleged unnecessary suffering due to a lack of adequate food and water. The court had to consider causation in light of evidence of severe weather; unsatisfactory vet care; mange; and internal infection.
