Mark Watson secures withdrawal of £3m confiscation application against company director in waste case
February 19, 2016
Mark Watson, representing the director of a waste company, has secured the withdrawal of one of the largest confiscation applications ever made by the Environment Agency in a waste crime prosecution. On the basis of alleged waste deposits of in excess of 66,000 tonnes, the Agency had claimed that landfill tax and costs avoided were in the region of £3m. During a contested hearing lasting several days at Hereford Crown Court, the Agency withdrew the application for confiscation and the director was sentenced in light of his reduced basis of plea to fines totalling £5,000.
