Lengthy sentences imposed in sex abuse prosecution
September 12, 2017
Sentence took place yesterday at Reading Crown Court in the historic interfamilial sex abuse prosecution brought following one of the largest police investigations of its type. Oliver Saxby QC was leading for the Crown, with Georgina Gibbs of 36 Bedford Row and Lauren Sales of 23 Essex Street.
Spanning 25 years of the worst kinds of physical and sexual abuse, the allegations involved multiple generations, multiple vulnerable complainants and a number of previous Care Proceedings and Police Investigations – making for a complex case that was challenging to present.
The trial lasted 10 weeks. The principal defendants were sentenced to 26 and 28 years’ imprisonment respectively. Oliver Saxby QC was instructed by James Cable at CPS Thames Chiltern Complex Crime Unit.
