Ben Close KC is a leading criminal and regulatory advocate who has specialised in complex, high-profile cases since being called to the Bar in 2009. In 2026, he became the youngest criminal practitioner in the country to be appointed King’s Counsel, reflecting his exceptional reputation and advocacy skills.

Appointed as a Recorder in 2025, sitting in crime on the Midland Circuit, Ben is regularly instructed by both prosecuting authorities and the defence in the most serious and challenging cases. His practice encompasses homicide, large-scale fraud and money laundering, substantial drug conspiracies and importations, and cases involving serious sexual allegations.

Before taking silk, Ben was ranked as a Tier 1 Leading Junior by Legal 500 for both Business and Regulatory Crime and General Crime and Fraud. Alongside his busy practice, he is deeply committed to advocacy training and professional development, serving as a Midland Circuit advocacy tutor, a tutor for Lincoln’s Inn, and a former member of the Bar Council’s Education and Training Committee.
